Acclaimed Californian pop-punk band Joyce Manor – Barry Johnson (vocals and guitar), Chase Knobbe (guitar), Jeff Enzor (drums) and Matt Ebert (bass) –are embarking on a North American tour in support of their latest release entitled Cody which received widespread acclaim. It was the follow-up to the band’s 2014’s critically-lauded record Never Hungover Again. While the band’s Epitaph debut Never Hungover Again was recorded in a mere ten days, Cody was the result of two months in the studio with renowned producer Rob Schnapf, credited on classics by Elliot Smith, Guided By Voices, Saves The Day and Rancid among others. As the band’s guitarist and singer Barry Johnson explains, “It was the first time we really used the studio to our advantage. I felt like I could get a better grasp on what we could do. We always recorded like a punk band—go in and lay ‘em down! Just get good takes! And this time we tried a lot more.” The result is a record that dares to be humble, intimate and unapologetically human. Cody is the album where the band moves past simple pop and punk. It’s a moment for clarity and creative renewal. Without losing any of the emotional power fans love, the band is defiantly looking towards the future.

Wavves, the project of San Diego’s Nathan Williams, is a blend of distorted no-fi and refined sunshiny melodies. Charmingly messy, most of his lyrics, while difficult to decipher, generally revolve around the subjects of boredom, and the beach - when he isn't poking jabs at the gloomy subculture of goth rock (a common theme, found in "Goth Girls," "California Goths," "Summer Goths," "Surf Goths," and "Beach Goths"). Wavves was conceived just after Williams, at age 21, quit his job as a clerk at Music Trader, while he was dividing his free time between skateboarding, writing for his hip-hop blog, Ghost Ramp, and making music using an '80s Tascam cassette recorder and GarageBand software. Due to his inexperience with the program, the result of one month's worth of bedroom recording sessions was two full albums of songs: all completely mangled by overdriven inputs. Rather than scrapping the material, he embraced the in-the-red aesthetic and started promoting the songs online. Wavves was quickly embraced and touted as "the next big thing" by Internet music critics and fellow bloggers. Many praised the immediacy and D.I.Y. nature of his work, and Williams capitalized on those aspects, continuously uploading free digital versions of his music - including two 7" singles, a cassette, and an EP - all with simple self-drawn artwork or scanned photos for cover art. A full length LP, simply titled Wavves, was released shortly thereafter, followed by King of the Beach (2010), Life Sux (2011), Afraid of Heights (2013) and V (2015). The band’s latest album, You’re Welcome, was released on William’s own Ghost Ramp label in May of this year.
