“The Weight carries on where The Band left off.” –Chicago Sun Times
“Musicians with boundless depth playing timeless music that binds us all.” –Poughkeepsie Journal
Replicating the music of The Band is a tall order. But interpreting the music of The Band is an art. Songs that have reverberated across history for decades continue to speak to millions of us. And The Weight, a five-piece ensemble featuring Jim Weider and Randy Ciarlante from The Band, Brian Mitchell of the Levon Helm Band, Marty Grebb, who wrote and recorded with The Band and worked with Rick Danko and Richard Manuel, and Albert Rogers who played with Levon Helm and Garth Hudson, remains a vehicle through which we can continue to share those stories and dance to those back beats. A passing wish of Levon Helm was for the music and spirit of The Band to live on, and The Weight does just that, bringing a live performance to fans of The Band. Five musical brothers, all with a compelling connection to The Band’s heritage, locked at the hip and passionate in the mission of performing songs of the Band, live in concert. This is the most authentic presentation of The Band that the world is ever going to get. Come and take a load off, and prepare for an unforgettable performance.
Fans will hear some of the best known hits by The Band, particularly the group’s signature tunes, as well as other roots-rock classics that have influenced much of today’s Americana music including “The Weight,” “Rag Mama Rag,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” “Up on Cripple Creek,” “Life is a Carnival,” “Ophelia” and many more.
